The incident took place in Valley Stream around 12:50 a.m., Wednesday, April 27 on Sunrise Highway.

According to detectives, a Fifth Precinct police officer on patrol on Sunrise Highway spotted a 2019 Nissan traveling east with an expired out-of-state temporary registration tag and dark tinted windows.

The officer attempted to stop the car at which time the driver refused to stop. The Nissan struck a parked vehicle and then crashed into a light pole located at 225 Street and North Conduit Avenue in Queens, the Nassau County Police said.

The driver of the Nissan, Rahiem A. Jackson, age 21, of Queens, exited his vehicle after kicking out the driver's window. He attempted to flee the scene on foot, ignoring police commands to stop, police said.

After a brief struggle, the officer attempted to place Jackson into police custody while he continually flailed his arms and tried picking up a black handgun he had dropped, police added.

Two assisting NYPD officers arrived on the scene and deployed a taser and placed Jackson in custody, police said.

Jackson and his three passengers were treated at a nearby local hospital.

He was charged with:

  • Criminal possession of a weapon/ghost gun/defaced
  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Criminal possession of a weapon/machine gun modification
  • Criminal possession of a weapon/large feeding device with 17 rounds
  • Obstructing governmental administration
